We're finally here!

Thank you for visiting Jumbo House Publishing. This is a dream come true and I appreciate you for joining me on this journey. Twenty years ago I created an activity book to coincide with an essay on the history of Black women in America for my high school senior project. About five years later, my best friend and I dreamed about and planned our publishing company, but it never got off the ground. So, this company has been a long time coming.

While reading and writing have been part of my existence for as long as I can remember, motherhood increased the internal pressure to bring my dreams to life. I have two beautiful Nigerian-American sons and characters who look like them are statistically underrepresented from children's literature. There are still more picture books featuring animal protagonists than Black children, according to a study conducted by Cooperative Children's Book Center in 2018. It is encouraging to see so many Black authors taking control of the narrative and writing the stories that we want to see. As we know, no race is monolithic, especially not the Black race. There are so many differences in the Black experience all over the world that there is room in the market for everybody who wants to do the work. This may be optimistic, as the children's book market is pretty saturated, but it's not saturated with books for people of color!

At Jumbo House Publishing, we plan to extend our product offerings to include:

  • Books in various genres
  • Books by other authors
  • Book-related merchandise

Additionally, we plan to offer a host of publishing services including:
