What's your why?

Last week I decided to create a vision wall in my office. In one of the statements, I mention the words: joy, passion, and purpose. When I shared my statement with a cousin, she told me that I need to get very specific about what joy, passion, and purpose mean to me. I wholeheartedly agreed and was reminded of one of the lessons I've learned from all of my recent reading. One of the things I've learned from reading books like Think and Grow Rich, Soar, and The Power of Your Subconscious Mind is that a clear and specific vision for your life is integral to manifestation. So, once again I put pen to paper and got specific. I'm going to share a little bit of what I wrote, because this explains why I started Jumbo House Publishing and why I've written to books that I've written thus far.

This may sound corny, but laying in the bed and rubbing feet with my husband makes me utterly happy. Listening to my sons' belly laughs and watching them roll on the floor warms my entire soul. For me, it really is the simple things. I look forward to our weekly Family Movie Nights on Fridays, even though I get annoyed when the boys refuse to stay in their own blankets. Naturally, they want to be with me, but then I end up coverless!

I'm passionate about living life on my own terms. Right now, I'm not totally doing that because I still work a day job. While I'm very blessed because it's super flexible, I still feet tethered. However, because my husband and I both have steady  incomes, we're able to do a lot of the things we want to do, so it's not all bad. I'm also passionate about creating and maintaining a comfortable and peaceful life for my family. Right now, even though I'd love to be a full-time entrepreneur, my passion for keeping my family comfortable supersedes that desire.

When I discovered the term multipotentialite, I felt seen and understood. According to Puttylike.com, "A multipotentialite is someone with many interests and creative pursuits. It stems from the word multipotentiality–a psychological and educational term used to describe people who display aptitudes across multiple disciplines." During my undergrad years, I switched majors multiple times. In my twenties, I searched long and hard to "find my purpose," to no apparent avail after incorrectly associating purpose with vocation. At this point in my life, closing out my 30s, I understand that my purpose is to equip people for success and I do this in all areas of my life. As a wife and mother, I encourage my husband and children to be their best and I do my best to provide the best atmosphere for that to happen. As a leader in Corporate America, I foster an environment where my employees learn and grow consistently. As a writer, I write books that encourage readers to be introspective and consider their own thoughts and actions.

I had the distinct pleasure of having one of my posts about Danny's Christmas List come up in someone's search. This person happened to be a journalist who was looking for story ideas. Take two minutes to see me discuss the "why" behind Danny's Christmas List. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
